Former Bedok South Secondary School campus to be demolished for housing development

Singapore, 30 Oct 2022

SINGAPORE - The former Bedok South Secondary School campus at 860 New Upper Changi Road is slated to be demolished in the first quarter of 2023 to make way for housing.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Education told The Straits Times that demolition works are estimated to take about five months, after which the site will be handed over to the Singapore Land Authority.

The Housing Board will then take over the 1.6ha site – the equivalent of about two football fields in size – which has been zoned for residential use and has a gross plot ratio of 3.5.

ERA Realty head of research and consultancy Nicholas Mak said there is a higher chance that the site will be used for public rather than private housing, as Build-To-Order projects have not been launched in Bedok since November 2016.

He added that there are existing HDB developments adjacent to the site, which increases the odds that it might be used for the same purpose.

OrangeTee and Tie senior vice-president of research and analytics Christine Sun concurred with Mr Mak. She highlighted the site’s proximity to amenities such as a market and hawker centre, as well as sports facilities, as a factor that will increase the future housing development’s draw.
